Faced with a very narrow, awkward site with a demanding brief, the challenge was to design what would essentially be a train-like set of volumes in a way that gave all the rooms some kind of outlook onto a garden, an outside space or a view. Being part of a development of homes that all had to work with a particular pallet of materials, deference was paid to this in the form of very simple, barn-like pitched roof and a long stone clad screen wall masking the minimalist building behind.
